Acne scars and dermabrasion

There are two types of dermabrasion available for acne scars. Acne scars dermabrasion is thought to be the most effective treatment for acne scars. Under local anesthetic, a high-speed brush or fraise used to remove surface skin and alter the contour of scars.

With acne scar dermabrasion superficial scars may be removed altogether, and deeper scars may be reduced in depth.

Acne scar dermabrasion does not work for all kinds of scars; for example, it may make ice-pick scars more noticeable if acne scars are wider under the skin than at the surface. In darker-skinned people, dermabrasion may cause changes in pigmentation that require additional acne scar treatment.

Acne scar microdermabrasion is a new technique, more of a surface form of dermabrasion. Rather than a high-speed brush, acne scar microdermabrasion uses aluminum oxide crystals passing through a vacuum tube to remove surface skin. Only the very surface cells of the skin are removed, so no additional wound is created. Multiple procedures are often required but scars may not be significantly improved.

Acne scars dermabrasion treatment is now available not only in salons, but in home too. The principle of acne scar dermabrasion implies that your very top layer of the skin is removed with aluminum oxide crystals. In major dermabrasion the diamond burr is used.

The difficulty of acne scar dermabrasion is that the skin may become reddish for a while and then pigment irregularly. However, with gentle home treatments, it's hardly a point.

Both microdermabrasion dermabrasion will remove only surface discoloration and surface pitter scars. The deeper scars will require collagen injections and even radical scar surgery.

Scarring is the long-term effect of acne and may look like an uneven skin surface, or in some skin tones, discoloration.

Scarring is unpredictable - it's impossible to know how much a particular person will scar, if at all. The best way to prevent acne scarring is through early acne treatment.
